The archive will be opened as a reading room to the public on 7 and 21 July. Visitors and researchers can browse the collection of artefacts and articles related to Singapore’s design history.
(1) BVI: Singapore’s First Design School
Its graduation time for design schools—a tradition that stretches back over five decades when Singapore established its first national design school, Baharuddin Vocational Institute. Visit the Singapore Design Archive to learn the institute’s founding, browse its inaugural graduation publication and help uncover where its graduates are today.
(2) Children’s Books by Singapore Illustrators
What was it like growing up as a child in Singapore? In conjunction with Children’s Season, the Singapore Design Archive digs up an assortment of local designs for children, including illustrated children’s books by the late pioneering local illustrator Kwan Shan Mei and iconic mosaic playground designs by former HDB designers.
